Q & A with Leslie:

Tessa: Les, in 1983 you went to Vassar and a year later, decided you didn’t like it, so you left and went to the Honors Program at the University of Massachusetts. What did your parents have to say about that?
Leslie: My mom said “Do whatever makes you happy” and my dad said, “Thank God for that, you’re saving me thousands of dollars a year.”

Tessa: What came after that?
Leslie: I went to Columbia University’s Teacher’s College in New York City, and then got a job teaching kindergarten and first grade in New York. Then I had my kids so I scaled back my work. I was the librarian at their elementary school and did substitute teaching. I began food blogging because I wanted to keep track of what I was cooking – a record so it wouldn’t get boring and I could avoid cooking the same things all the time.

Tessa: What’s your favorite dish?
Leslie: Rigatoni with sausage and broccoli or, when I want to be fancy, orechiette with sausage and broccoli.

Tessa: Yum!
